Cyprus Health Organization Responds to VIP Patient Allegations in Paphos Mayor's Wife Case

The Cyprus Public Health Organization (OKYPY) has responded to allegations regarding the management of VIP patients, stemming from the case involving the wife of the Mayor of Paphos and the claims made by Annie Alexui. Spokesperson Charalambos Charilaou stated that this is the first time they have heard of such a categorization of patients and that OKYPY does not implement such practices. Patients are treated based on the severity of their condition, not their status. Mr. Charilaou clarified that the form circulating with the term "VIP" is not an OKYPY form, as the organization has updated its forms since 2019. He confirmed that OKYPY is ready to cooperate with the Police in the investigation of Annie Alexui's allegations regarding abuse. Regarding the abuse case, OKYPY will provide any assistance requested by the Police, as all relevant documents are kept in hospital records. The obligation of doctors and nurses to report cases of violence, rape, or abuse to the authorities was also emphasized. Finally, it was stressed that the Medical Services is the only authority competent to confirm allegations of abuse, and that OKYPY has cooperated with the service in the past in similar cases.
