Banks in 2026: Michalis Kronidis Warns 'Without Adaptation and Flexibility, There is No Competitiveness'

Michalis Kronidis, Senior Director of the Cyprus Banking Association (CBA), states that 2025 was characterized by stability in the banking sector, confirmed by credit upgrades. The growth of the Cypriot economy, low inflation and unemployment, and the reduction of public debt contributed to this positive environment. 2025 also saw the adoption of instant payments and increased compliance with ESG issues. For 2026, Mr. Kronidis emphasizes the need for continuous adaptation and flexibility in banks, as well as addressing geopolitical uncertainties. He also refers to the need to simplify the supervisory and regulatory framework.
