US Halts Collection of Tariffs Deemed Illegal by Supreme Court Starting Tomorrow

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) announced it will halt the collection of tariffs deemed illegal by the Supreme Court starting tomorrow, Tuesday at 7:01 AM EST. The decision follows the overturning of former President Donald Trump’s “retaliatory” tariffs. CBP informed freight forwarders that it will deactivate all related tariff codes. The suspension of IEEPA tariff collection coincides with Trump’s imposition of a new, global 15% tariff, based on a different legal basis. CBP did not explain why it continued to collect the tariffs after the Supreme Court’s decision, nor did it provide information about potential refunds to importers. The suspension does not affect other tariffs imposed by Trump, including those related to national security or unfair trade practices.
