US Sends Powerful War Machine to Iran

The United States is bolstering its military presence in the Middle East, particularly around the Strait of Hormuz, by deploying the USS Tripoli (LHA-7), an advanced amphibious assault ship functioning as a “small aircraft carrier.” The ship, the second in the America class, was launched in 2017 and entered active service in 2020. It boasts impressive dimensions (approximately 257 meters long, 45,000-ton displacement) and can achieve speeds exceeding 20 knots. The USS Tripoli can carry over 1,700 Marines and features a large flight deck capable of hosting a full “air wing” of F-35B Lightning II fighter jets, MV-22 Osprey tilt-rotor aircraft, and various types of helicopters. This allows it to conduct troop transport, precision strikes, reconnaissance, and airborne support missions. In terms of armament, the ship is equipped with high-tech self-defense systems, including Rolling Airframe Missile (RAM) and Evolved Sea Sparrow (ESSM) missile launchers, as well as the Phalanx CIWS close-in weapon system. These systems protect the ship from aerial threats such as missiles and aircraft. The deployment of the USS Tripoli to the region underscores the growing tensions in the Middle East and the United States’ determination to project power and ensure the security of vital sea lanes, particularly in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical area for global energy trade.
