Ecumenical Patriarch: 'I'm Not Afraid of Russian Propaganda'

Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew responded to Russian accusations against him, stating that he is not afraid of Russian propaganda and the attacks he is receiving. He emphasized that the Russian side reveals with its actions who has the upper hand in ecclesiastical affairs in Russia. The Patriarch accused Russian services of spreading false information and slander, as well as attempting to disrupt the unity of Orthodoxy. He expressed his concern for the situation in the Middle East, especially the shrinking Christian presence in the region. He stressed the need to protect Christian populations and create conditions for safe living and economic development. He underlined the right of Christians to remain in their homeland and return to their ancestral homes. Regarding Ukraine, Patriarch Bartholomew stated that peace must return with respect for the country's national independence and with a comprehensive reconstruction plan. He expressed hope that the Orthodox Church will remain a light of peace and unity despite geopolitical tensions. The Ecumenical Patriarch condemned the Russian war in Ukraine, calling it “sacred” and accusing Russia of attempting to control and subjugate Orthodoxy, using Stalinist propaganda tactics. He emphasized that the truth cannot be hidden and that those responsible will be held accountable for their actions.
