UN Fears Escalation After Trump's Remarks on Military Action Against Iran – Warnings of an 'Explosive Situation'

The UN has expressed serious concern over Donald Trump's statements and threats of potential military action against Iran, warning of the risk of escalation and destabilization in the region. Deputy Secretary-General Martha Pobee emphasized that these statements exacerbate instability in an already “explosive” situation. The protests in Iran, which began due to the rising cost of living, have turned into a massive movement challenging the regime, with estimates of over 3,400 protesters killed and over 10,000 arrested. The UN Security Council meeting was convened at the request of the United States, which initially threatened military intervention if Tehran did not halt the executions of protesters. However, after warnings from allies, Washington appeared to soften its rhetoric, while still leaving “all options on the table.” Tehran accuses Israel and the United States of supporting and coordinating the “rioters,” while Russia accuses the United States of escalating tensions. Iranian-American journalist Masih Alinejad, invited to speak at the meeting, argued that the Iranian people are united against the regime and welcome potential assistance from the United States.
