Positive Sign: Klirou and Pomos Dams Overflow (VIDEO)

The Klirou and Pomos dams have overflowed due to the heavy rainfall of recent days, causing optimism amid general concern about low water reserves in Cyprus. Videos circulating on social media show the dams overflowing, which has provoked positive comments from citizens. The Provincial Engineer of the Water Development Department of Paphos, Haris Kasioulis, stated that the overflow of the Klirou dam was expected, as it had already approached its maximum capacity. The overflow of the Pomos dam, with a capacity of 890 thousand cubic meters, further enhanced the optimism. Although the Klirou dam is one of the smallest in Cyprus, its overflow is particularly important after a dry year. This development strengthens expectations for improvement in the hydrological picture throughout Cyprus. Residents gathered at the dams to watch the spectacle, while the Deputy Mayor of Pomos, Andreas Dionysiou, emphasized the importance of the Pomos dam for the primary sector of the area, as it irrigates greenhouses, tree crops and vegetable plantations. Water adequacy is a basic prerequisite for the sustainability of agricultural production.
