Cyprus: Insufficient Evidence in Case of Paphos Mayor's Wife Alleged Assault

The Legal Service has determined that the evidence in the case of the alleged assault on the wife of the suspended Mayor of Paphos, Phaedon Phaedonos, is insufficient to proceed with the case in court. Police have received material for evaluation, while an investigation is also underway into the alleged rape case involving Mr. Phaedonos. The Legal Service has not filed charges against the Mayor, as the investigation is ongoing. The complaints come from a businesswoman and the alleged victim of the abuse. The Mayor's guilt or innocence will be determined by the court, based on the presumption of innocence.
