MPs Outraged Over Delay in Special Education Bill

Members of Parliament have expressed strong dissatisfaction with the delay in submitting a bill for special and inclusive education to the Parliamentary Education Committee. They accused the Minister of failing to keep her commitment to consultation in 2024, while emphasizing the need for immediate prioritization of the issue. Committee Chairman, Pavlos Mylonas, described the delay as a “shame” and pointed out the difficulty in finding funds to implement a new bill. DISY MP, Giorgos Karoulas, called on those responsible to speed up the process and complete the consultation. He also mentioned the overcrowding in special schools and the lack of day centers, proposing the creation of multi-purpose schools. AKEL MP, Christos Christofides, described the session as “charged” and denounced “mockery” from the government, as the programmatic commitment to dialogue and legislation in 2024 was not fulfilled.
