Bills to Monitor Telecommunications Promoted by the Ministry of Justice - Response to Crime, Says Fytiris

The Ministry of Justice is promoting bills to monitor telecommunications as a response to the increase in criminal activity. The bills concern the amendment of the Constitution to broaden the reasons for lifting the confidentiality of communications, including serious crimes such as attempted murder, human trafficking, terrorism, and illegal trafficking of migrants. Lifting the confidentiality will require written approval from the Attorney General. Minister of Justice Kostas Fytiris emphasized that these measures aim to strengthen the security and sovereignty of the Republic, while fundamental rights will be respected. The bills have been approved by the Council of Ministers and will be submitted to Parliament immediately.
