Parents Demand Strict Punishment for Students Involved in School Violence

Published January 16, 2026, 12:29

Organized parents are demanding strict punishments for students involved in acts of violence within schools, following a recent incident where a 12-year-old student attacked and hit a teacher. The President of the Federation of Parents of Secondary Education, Loizos Constantinou, expressed his sympathy to the teacher and stressed the need for authorities not to succumb to interventions that lead to reduced penalties. The incident occurred during school hours, with the student hitting the teacher in the abdomen after she made observations to him. The teacher filed a complaint with the Police. Parents point out that violence in schools is a widespread phenomenon and requires immediate action. Mr. Constantinou states that interventions have historically been made to avoid strict punishment for students, under the pretext that they are children. He calls on school administrations to impose penalties and not succumb to such pressure. A similar incident occurred recently in Paphos, where middle school students were involved in a fight due to “personal differences”. Parents emphasize the need for prevention and tackling delinquency in schools, as well as justice for acts of violence. The Federation of Associations of Parents of Secondary and Technical Education in Larnaca condemns the incident and calls for a full investigation and accountability.
