Nikos Sykas Seeks to Overturn Decision to Be Left Off Ballot

MP Nikos Sykas has decided to challenge in court the decision of the DISY party to exclude him from the ballot for the 2026 Parliamentary Elections. He has filed a civil lawsuit in court, seeking to overturn the decision and return to the ballot. He is not seeking financial compensation, but only the annulment of the decision. The case has already been scheduled for hearing, with the court instructing that the lawsuit be served on DISY. The next hearing is scheduled for February 17, when DISY will have to state its position on the possibility of issuing a temporary order overturning the decision. Mr. Sykas has also filed a request for a temporary order to suspend the validity of the party's decision until the case is heard. The court has committed to deciding on the temporary order by February 28, the date set for the DISY Supreme Council to approve the ballots. Mr. Sykas’ lawsuit is based on the illegal and erroneous decision of the Political Bureau, as well as the failure to hear his position. In addition, he argues that no punishment can be imposed before the outcome of the court case. At the same time, the file of the case concerning the initial complaint of the MP's partner is with the Legal Service for study and decision-making regarding possible criminal prosecution.
