New Decree Issued for Foot-and-Mouth Disease Control Measures in Cyprus

The Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment of Cyprus has issued a new decree for the control of foot-and-mouth disease, published in the Official Gazette. The decree includes additional provisions and prohibitions regarding the movement of materials such as wool, hides, and manure, as well as regulations for the slaughter of animals and the shearing of cloven-hoofed animals. It also sets a new date for the harvesting and transport of feed. Existing provisions regarding the movement and grazing of cloven-hoofed animals, as well as restrictions on visits to farms, remain in effect. The competent Authority is responsible for determining the zones where the restrictive measures apply. The decree emphasizes that non-compliance with its provisions constitutes a violation of animal health laws and may result in an administrative fine of up to €5,000. The new decree replaces the previous one, maintaining the strictness of the measures to prevent the spread of foot-and-mouth disease in Cyprus. The aim is to protect animal production and public health.
