Yellow Alert for Storms and Hail Issued – When it Takes Effect

The Meteorology Department has issued a yellow alert for storms, valid from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm on Thursday, March 19th. The storms are expected to be isolated but strong, with rainfall intensity between 35 and 55 millimeters per hour, and hail is possible. Winds will be variable and occasionally strengthened. The weather forecast predicts a low-pressure system from Egypt affecting the island, while a new disturbance from the west will affect the area from Friday. Dust will be suspended in the atmosphere, with concentrations increasing intermittently until Friday evening. Tonight, the weather will be mainly cloudy with local showers or thunderstorms. Tomorrow, the weather will be intermittently cloudy with local showers and isolated thunderstorms. On Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, intermittent local showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected, with the possibility of hail and snow or sleet on the highest peaks of Troodos. The temperature will be around 19 degrees Celsius inland and on the coast tomorrow, falling to 11 degrees Celsius inland and 6 degrees Celsius in the higher mountains tonight. A slight drop in temperature is expected on Saturday, where it will remain on Sunday.
