New National Tourism Strategy 2035 Approved - Aiming for 5 Million Visitors

The Council of Ministers has approved the new National Tourism Strategy 2035, aiming to attract 5 million visitors and upgrade the quality of the tourism product. This strategy is an update of the previous National Tourism Strategy 2030 and aligns with the long-term strategy for the sustainable development of the Cypriot economy. The fundamental objectives of the strategy include further upgrading the quality of tourism, continuing tourism development with respect for sustainability, transforming Cyprus into a digitally smart destination, reducing seasonality, and developing tourism throughout the year. Compared to the previous strategy, the new one places particular emphasis on sustainable tourism development, the green transition, digital transformation, and improving infrastructure, especially accessibility infrastructure. The Deputy Ministry of Tourism is moving ahead immediately with the preparation of action plans to implement the objectives. The target of 5 million visitors by 2035 will be achieved with a more even distribution of visitors across regions and time periods. Cyprus has already achieved a greater diversification of tourism sources in recent years, with the addition of new markets, such as Kazakhstan. Cyprus now receives visitors from over 40 countries.
