New Data for SYOP: Extension of Service and Possibility of Advancement

The House of Representatives voted today on amendments to legislation concerning contract soldiers (SYOP) of the National Guard, extending the age limit to which they can serve. With the amendment of the National Guard Law, SYOPs will now be able to conclude or renew their employment contracts until the age of 57, instead of 42 as previously provided for in the current framework. At the same time, the House approved the amending regulations concerning the recruitment, hierarchy, promotions and termination of employment of contract non-commissioned officers in the Army of the Republic. These regulations provide the possibility for contract soldiers to be recruited as contract non-commissioned officers (SYP) with the rank of sergeant. The passage of the legislation was monitored from the benches of the House by the Minister of Defense Vasilis Palmas.
