Can Police Park on the Highway for Traffic Checks?

Assistant Director of Traffic Headquarters, Haris Evripidou, spoke about the incident of the truck that collided with a police vehicle on the highway. He pointed out that the patrol car was parked on an embankment of the highway, and not in the safety lane, and that parking there was legal, according to legislation concerning police vehicles while on duty on the highway. He also emphasized that the patrol car had its hazard lights on. The incident occurred when a truck entered the safety lane and collided with the rear of the patrol car. Fortunately, the patrol car was a 4x4, which reduced the severity of the collision. Both members of the Police who were in the patrol car, as well as the truck driver, were taken to the hospital, but their condition is not critical. According to the Police, the truck driver entered the safety lane under circumstances that are being investigated. They were checked for alcohol and drugs, but the results were negative. The incident highlighted the issue of safety on highways and the importance of driver attention.
