Road Transport Department Cracks Down on Illegal Passenger Transport

The Department of Road Transport (RTO) of Cyprus conducted intensive checks in the provinces of Larnaca and Nicosia during the week of March 16-22, 2026, to combat illegal passenger transport. In Nicosia, 120 taxis were checked, resulting in 14 vehicles being reported for various offenses. At Larnaca Airport, 8 private vehicles were inspected, leading to the issuance of three violation notices to two drivers and one company, totaling €8,250. Illegal passenger transport by private vehicles poses risks to passengers due to the lack of insurance coverage and licensing. The RTO urges the public to use only licensed taxis and report any suspected cases of illegal transport.
