Special Education Bill to be Ready in Weeks, Minister Says

The Minister of Education, Sports and Youth, Athena Michailidou, announced that the bill for Special Education will be ready in a few weeks, to be put out for public consultation before being submitted to Parliament. The Minister stressed that the reform is necessary, as legislation for special education has remained unchanged for 27 years. The aim of the new bill is to put children with disabilities at the centre of the educational process, with individualized programs and an increased role for parents. The Minister referred to the need for training of teachers and parents, emphasizing that attitudes change only with practical training. The bill concerns multi-level changes and is the beginning of further development in the field of special education.
