Millet: Turkey Sent Protest Letter to NATO, EU, US Over Patriot

Turkey strongly protested to Greece, NATO, the EU, and the US regarding the deployment of the Patriot missile system to Karpathos, considering it a move escalating tensions in the Aegean Sea. Ankara argues that Greece is seeking to create a fait accompli with the support of Western allies. The Turkish press presents this move as a “counterattack” to the strengthening of Greek defenses on the islands. Turkey disputes Greece's right to militarize the islands, arguing that they must remain demilitarized in accordance with the Treaty of Lausanne. Turkish sources state that Greece is acting with external support and seeks to encircle Turkey. At the same time, they downplay the military significance of Greek moves, arguing that air defense systems cannot create real military superiority. Turkey warns that if Greece does not comply with the Treaty of Lausanne, it will have the right to suspend the relevant provisions.
