Cyprus Bishop and Monk Deny Charges in Avvakoum Monastery Video Leak Case

The Metropolitan of Tamasos and Oreini, Isaias, and the monk Varnavas have denied the charges against them regarding the leak of video footage from the Holy Monastery of Osios Avvakoum. The charges relate to a possible violation of personal data. The case has been rescheduled for May 12, 2026, when the substantive examination will begin. Three witnesses, who are the investigators in the case, have been summoned. The case originated from investigations by the former Personal Data Protection Commissioner, Irene Loizidou Nikolaidou, regarding the leak of video from areas of the Monastery that should not have been recorded.
