Mitsotakis: “EU United with Denmark and Greenland”

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, upon his arrival at the emergency European Council in Brussels, stated that Europe is united with Denmark and Greenland. He referred to the tension in transatlantic relations due to the statements of Donald Trump, but expressed the view that the latest positions show a path towards de-escalation, at least regarding Greenland. Mitsotakis emphasized that the EU, with one exception, stood with Denmark and Greenland, underlining that the issues of Greenland concern only its inhabitants and Denmark. He acknowledged US concerns about Arctic security, but noted that they can be resolved with goodwill and based on existing agreements with Denmark and the EU. Regarding the Peace Council proposed by Trump, Mitsotakis proposed the accession of the 13 countries to the next phase of the peace process in Gaza and for as long as necessary. He stressed that Greece and most EU countries have legal concerns, as the Peace Council deviates from UN Security Council resolution 2803. Mitsotakis proposed a compromise solution that would allow participation in a peace process in Gaza, without creating a new organization that would operate in competition with the UN.
