Greece Sends Aircraft and Frigates to Cyprus in Show of Support – Historical References Made by Dendias

Greek Minister of National Defence, Nikos Dendias, announced the deployment of two pairs of F-16 aircraft and two frigates, the 'Psara' with the 'KENTAUROS' drone countermeasure system and the 'Kimon', to Cyprus, as a demonstration of practical support and solidarity. Dendias emphasized that Cyprus is close to Greece and that the presence of Greek forces aims to protect all legal residents of the island. The phrase 'Kimon returns to Cyprus' was referenced as historical symbolism, honoring the memory of Grigoris Afxentiou. Cypriot Defence Minister, Vasilis Palmas, clarified that Cyprus will not participate in any military operation, but informed his Greek counterpart about the security situation on the island, including the recent drone attack on the Akrotiri British Bases.
