President Christodoulides Presents Eight Proposals at Informal EU Summit

The President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, characterized the informal EU Summit in Alden Biesen as one of the most important Councils of the Union, emphasizing that he is attending with eight specific proposals to strengthen the EU's competitiveness. He stressed the importance of making decisions with clear timelines, referencing the successful progress made on defense and security issues after a similar summit last year. The President Christodoulides emphasized that strengthening competitiveness is a key priority of the Cypriot Presidency, within the framework of the EU's strategic autonomy. All dossiers before the Presidency are treated with particular priority in this direction. He expressed hope that the summit will lead to concrete decisions and not just discussions. He is also expected to meet with the Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis to be briefed on his meeting with the President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. In addition, the Mediterranean EU member states will discuss a common approach regarding the upcoming invitation from the US President to Washington. Overall, the Cypriot Presidency seeks to promote specific and measurable actions to strengthen the EU's competitiveness, considering it a fundamental parameter for achieving the Union's strategic autonomy.
