With the Child in Mind for a Better Tomorrow - The Work of the 'Amerikos Argyriou' Center for Preventive Pediatrics

On the occasion of World Hearing Day, pediatrician Argyris Argyriou spoke about the work of the 'Amerikos Argyriou' Center for Preventive Pediatrics. The center implements prevention programs for pregnant women and newborns, such as prenatal screening, screening for metabolic diseases, and newborn hearing screening. Despite the value of its work, the center faces financial and procedural challenges, as state funding covers only a portion of its needs. Mr. Argyriou emphasized that prevention should be a public responsibility and that in many countries such programs are directly funded by the state. He also referred to pending issues regarding cooperation with state agencies and the expansion of the newborn screening program for more metabolic diseases, in collaboration with the Genetics Institute and Makarios Hospital.
