Germany Will Not Participate in War with Iran, Says Chancellor Scholz

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has stated that Germany will not become involved in a war with Iran, emphasizing that this is not their conflict. Germany will not participate in escorting and protecting ships in the Strait of Hormuz, and Merz criticized the US decision to lift sanctions on Russian oil, expressing doubts about Washington's motives. During a G-7 leaders' teleconference, six leaders expressed opposition to easing sanctions against Russia, as Russia shows no willingness to negotiate. Merz stressed that the market is facing a price problem, not a quantity problem, due to the release of strategic reserves. Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre agreed with Merz's statements. It is worth noting that the EU has a very limited dependence on oil from Arab countries, with the US, Norway, and Kazakhstan being the main suppliers.
