Mexico: 25 Soldiers Dead in Cartel Attacks After 'El Mencho's' Death

Following the death of cartel leader Nemesio Oseguera, also known as 'El Mencho', the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) unleashed a wave of violence in Mexico, resulting in the deaths of at least 25 National Guard members, one police officer, and one judicial official. Authorities also reported the death of one woman and 30 cartel members in clashes with security forces. In response, the military has deployed an additional 2,500 soldiers to the region, bringing the total number of soldiers in the state of Jalisco to approximately 7,000. President Claudia Sheinbaum assured that the protection of the population is the priority and clarified that there was no direct involvement of the United States in the operation, but there was significant information sharing. The situation remains tense, and authorities are on high alert.
