Meloni: Italo-German Engine Driving EU – No One Excluded

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni stated that there is a strong collaboration between Italy and Germany within the European Union, describing it as an “Italo-German engine.” However, she emphasized that this initiative is not intended to exclude anyone, including France, which is actively involved in the dialogue on competitiveness. Meloni acknowledged the convergence of views with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz on many issues and the strengthening of bilateral cooperation. She stressed, however, that this cooperation is not at the expense of other countries but aims to promote common interests. The Prime Minister expressed her gratitude to Chancellor Scholz for his positive contribution and the good cooperation they have developed. Italy and Germany demonstrate an ability to coordinate their positions, which is considered positive for the EU. Meloni's statement comes in the context of the informal European summit being held in Belgium, where important issues for the future of the European Union are being discussed, such as competitiveness and economic growth.
