Employment in Cyprus Government Slightly Increased in February

Total employment in the Cyprus Government reached 55,331 jobs in February, marking a slight increase of 0.1% compared to the same month last year. According to data from the Statistical Service of Cyprus, employment in the Public Service decreased by 0.9%, while a decrease of 0.5% was recorded in the Security Forces. Conversely, the Educational Service saw an increase of 1.8%. Regarding personnel categories, Permanent Employees (PE) increased by 1.6%, while Fixed-Term Employees (FTE) decreased by 0.9%. The largest percentage increase was recorded among PE in the Educational Service (25.2%), while the largest decrease was among FTE in the Security Forces (85.4%), due to the completion and non-extension of contracts. The significant decrease in FTE in the Security Forces is due to the completion of specific fixed-term contracts in July 2025. For the period January-February 2026, the average of total employment in the Government increased by 0.3% compared to 2025. These figures provide a picture of the dynamics of employment in the Cypriot public sector, with trends varying by service and personnel category. The increase in the Educational Service and among PE suggests stabilization or strengthening of personnel in these areas, while the decrease in FTE in the Security Forces is linked to specific contractual situations.
