Successful 5th Tax Conference by SELK

The 5th Tax Conference of SELK (Association of Certified Accountants of Cyprus), in collaboration with the Tax Commissioner's Office, was a great success with strong interest from the professional world. The conference focused on Tax Reform and the implementation of the new Amendment Laws. The President of SELK, Mr. Odysseus Christodoulou, emphasized the importance of timely and responsible information regarding changes in taxation, while the Deputy Minister to the President, Ms. Irene Piki, described the reform as a landmark cut for the country, aiming for a simple, transparent, and efficient tax system. The main changes presented include the new tax-free threshold of €22,000, the simplification of tax brackets, the abolition of deemed dividend distribution, the reduction of the Special Defense Contribution to 5%, and the abolition of stamp duty. It is estimated that approximately 200,000 taxpayers have already seen an increase in income with the January salary, while 30,000 individuals are expected to be fully exempt from taxation by 2026. The President of the Parliamentary Committee on Finance, Ms. Christiana Erotokritou, emphasized that the reform is a product of consultation and collective effort, while also referring to the positive course of the Cypriot economy with a growth rate approaching 4% for 2025.
