European Parliament President Backs Cypriot Presidency, Highlights Key Priorities

The President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, expressed her support for the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the EU, stating that “I know Europe is in the best hands”. The President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, assured that Cyprus will cooperate with the EP to strengthen Europe and its role as a force for stability. During a joint press conference in Strasbourg, after the presentation of the Cypriot Presidency's priorities to the EP plenary, the two leaders referred to the need to resolve the Cyprus issue based on UN resolutions and European values. They reiterated their solidarity with Denmark and Greenland, as well as the importance of the transatlantic relationship, emphasizing the need for de-escalation. Metsola stressed the need for Europe to respond clearly and decisively to the challenges it faces, while Christodoulides spoke of competitiveness, security and defense as key goals.
