Fire Prevention Measures Presented to Parliament – €25 Million Detection System

Relevant services presented fire prevention measures to Parliament ahead of the summer, emphasizing the readiness of the state mechanism. The strengthening of the fire fleet through the Recovery and Resilience Plan was highlighted, as well as the operation of three television surveillance systems and the use of seven drones for fire detection. However, the use of drones is temporarily prohibited due to the international situation. The need to complete standby programs, staff training, and fleet maintenance by the end of March was emphasized. Maintenance work on the forest road network and firebreaks is expected to be completed by the end of May. A new 42-member specialized wildfire fighting team, the 'National Team', has been created with the participation of various services, which will be fully trained and certified to deal with forest fires and will be able to participate in missions abroad. The problem of non-compliance with fire safety measures by a large number of businesses across Cyprus was also highlighted, despite the legal obligation.
