Foot-and-Mouth Disease Prevention Measures in Anarita Livestock Areas

The Aphrodite Paphos Services Council Cluster is taking immediate action to prevent the spread of foot-and-mouth disease, following instructions from the Department of Agriculture. Plans are underway to construct three vehicle disinfection tanks in the livestock areas of Anarita, aiming to prevent the transmission of the virus. Additionally, multiple entrances and exits to the livestock zones will be closed, leaving only one controlled access point for disinfecting all vehicles. The Cluster President, Michalis Nikandrou, stated that the initial plan from the Department of Agriculture was incomplete and needed improvement, requiring tenders for the construction of the tanks. The importance of livestock farmers' participation in monitoring and disinfecting their vehicles was also emphasized. The situation is considered worrying and requires increased vigilance until vaccination measures are implemented.
