Middle East: Cypriot MEPs Criticize EU's Stance

The crisis in the Middle East was discussed at the European Parliament, with Cypriot MEPs expressing criticism of the EU's stance. Michalis Hadjipantela (EPP) emphasized the security of Cyprus thanks to European solidarity, while Giorgos Georgiou (Left) pointed out that this solidarity was offered individually and not institutionally. Geadis Geadi (ECR) warned about developments in Iran and the need for European unity, while Kostas Mavrides (S&D) criticized the lack of reference to the deployment of Turkish fighter jets in Cyprus. The MEPs expressed concerns about the consequences of the crisis, such as loss of life, energy insecurity, and refugee flows. Giorgos Georgiou called on the EU to make room for diplomacy and peace, while Geadis Geadi stressed the need for proactive reaction and not just observation of events. The discussion highlighted the different approaches of Cypriot MEPs regarding the EU's role in addressing the crisis, as well as the need to strengthen European solidarity and defense.
