Longinos: Incidents Increased for the Fire Service in 2025 - Thirteen Air Assets Available for Cyprus This Summer

The Fire Service responded to a total of 13,401 incidents in 2025, of which 7,154 were fires, 5,259 were special services, and 988 were false alarms, marking a 4.94% increase compared to 2024. Chief Fire Officer, Nikos Longinos, presented the statistics, emphasizing that Nicosia is first in incidents, followed by Limassol, Larnaca, Paphos and Famagusta. In anticipation of the summer season, Cyprus will have a total of 13 air assets available. Analyzing the data, Mr. Longinos mentioned that 1,180 fires occurred in the countryside, mainly after 7 pm, when fire stations in the countryside close, highlighting the need for 24-hour operation of these stations. An increase of 4.31% was observed in urban fires and 8.81% in rural fires. Also, 20 rescues, 15 injuries and 10 deaths were recorded (9 in Limassol and 1 in Nicosia). Regarding special services, a decrease of 1.09% was recorded compared to 2024, with 1,691 rescues from elevators. 100 entertainment centers were checked island-wide, with 53% being unsatisfactory, while in 80 industrial premises, 73.75% did not comply with fire safety measures. The Fire Service plays an important role in prevention, providing advisory services and conducting fire protection inspections. Mr. Longinos stressed that the Fire Service's primary mission is search and rescue, fire prevention and suppression, and providing assistance in disaster situations. The Service strives to continuously improve its services and enhance public safety.
