Letymbiotis: The Cyprus Issue is a Living National Wound

Government Spokesperson Konstantinos Letymbiotis emphasized the criticality of the current situation and the need for unity and national consciousness in addressing the challenges. Speaking at a memorial service, he referred to the continued illegal occupation of Cyprus, 52 years after the Turkish invasion, and the need for a final, functional, and sustainable solution based on UN resolutions, international law, and the European acquis. Mr. Letymbiotis stressed that the Cyprus issue is not merely a diplomatic matter but a living national wound affecting refugees, the families of missing persons, and enclaved citizens. The sacrifice of the heroes, he added, should be a source of inspiration and unity. Furthermore, he acknowledged the need to avoid divisions and strengthen national cohesion, as history has shown that discord can be more harmful than the enemy. Finally, he referred to the value of memory and conscience, calling for a shift towards the big and important issues, setting aside minor problems.
