Published February 27, 2026, 17:16

The Limassol Water Board (EOA) has secured technical assistance from the European Commission, through the Cohesion for Transitions (C4T) GROUNDWORK initiative, aiming to empower the mountainous communities of the Limassol District and improve water resource management. The technical support will be targeted and tailored to the needs of the communities, focusing on maturing sustainable water management projects and strengthening their ability to absorb European funds, especially in the areas of water supply and sewerage. The program is expected to accelerate the implementation of investments in water and sewerage infrastructure, particularly in areas with shortages and outdated networks, such as those supplied by the Arkolachanias Common Scheme. The technical assistance will also enhance the strategic, technical and organizational characteristics of both the Limassol Water Board and the mountainous communities. Particular attention will be paid to the recording and analysis of data in areas with limited storage capacity, high water losses and deficiencies in consumption measurement systems. The aim is to design solutions resilient to climate change and drought, taking into account fire protection, issues critical to the Cypriot economy. Furthermore, the program will improve coordination and data exchange, facilitating the integration of mountainous communities into the Limassol Water Board and the systematic pursuit of European funds. The creation of a prioritized project list will contribute to the more effective implementation of projects and the reduction of water losses. Participation in C4T GROUNDWORK marks a new phase for the Limassol Water Board, strengthening its role in the implementation of water and sewerage infrastructure projects.
