Lebanon: Celebrating the End of Ramadan Amid Bombings – ERT Correspondent in Beirut's Largest Mosque Wears Headscarf

In an atmosphere of devotion but also deep concern due to the war in the Middle East, thousands of Muslims gathered at the largest mosque in Beirut to pray for the end of Ramadan, Eid al-Fitr. ERTnews correspondent, Adamantia Lioliou, was present at the mosque where, from the early hours of Friday, believers of all ages and nationalities crowded the space, participating in this major religious celebration, which this year is particularly important as more than one million people in Lebanon have been displaced due to ongoing conflicts. Many residents are celebrating away from their homes for the first time, with traditions dramatically changed. Although traditionally the day is accompanied by family meals, gift-giving and festive mood, this year is dominated by a sense of insecurity and anxiety, as the journalist of ERTnews points out. “Faith keeps us united,” they characteristically say, emphasizing that prayer is the only hope for ending the war, which has been going on for weeks.
