Supreme Court Grants Leave to Challenge Search Warrant at Casino

The Supreme Court granted leave to file an application for a prerogative writ (Certiorari) in relation to a search warrant issued at a casino in Larnaca in February 2026. The case concerns the investigation of videos depicting torture. The applicant, the casino manager, argues that there was insufficient evidence linking the premises to the offenses. The Supreme Court requires a plausible case to be demonstrated for the granting of such leave. The police were investigating offenses such as grievous bodily harm, assault, possession of a knife and carrying a weapon, allegedly committed in 2025. The videos found on the applicant's mobile phones depict people being held against their will and subjected to violence, while in one video the applicant is seen holding a gun to the mouth of a person.
