Cypriot Presidency Calls for Sustainable Tourism in the Mediterranean

The Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the EU is focusing on sustainable and resilient tourism, with particular emphasis on the challenges and opportunities in the Mediterranean. Deputy Minister of Tourism Kostas Koumis highlighted the strategic importance of tourism for economic development and social cohesion, while Greece announced record tourism revenues of €23.626 billion in 2023. Greece and Cyprus share a common strategy for sustainable development and are collaborating to protect Mediterranean ecosystems. The Presidency is promoting a dual green and digital transition for an innovative and sustainable tourism ecosystem. Prince Albert II warned about the vulnerability of the Mediterranean and the need for collective responsibility to protect the environment.
