Cyprus Websites Targeted by Cyberattacks

Several websites in Cyprus have been targeted by cyberattacks in recent days, specifically Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDoS) attacks. The Commissioner for Communications, Giorgos Michailidis, stated that these attacks are the most common and least dangerous, as they overload pages with artificially increased traffic, making them temporarily inaccessible. Mr. Michailidis mentioned that the attacks are not targeting only government websites, but various others, without any specific pattern being identified in the targeted pages. This activity may be related to the current situation in the region or be coincidental. The Digital Security Authority (DSA) monitors the phenomenon 24/7 and informs critical infrastructure. However, the DSA can only provide information and technical assistance, while protection against such attacks requires website owners to invest in special services that redirect traffic elsewhere. Mr. Michailidis emphasized that the attacks are not continuous, but occur intermittently. The DSA continues to monitor the situation and inform critical infrastructure, assuring that no immediate, large-scale attack is expected.
