Government: Cyprus remains an attractive tourist destination

The Cypriot government assures that the country remains an attractive tourist destination, despite recent reports and the image presented abroad. Government Spokesman Konstantinos Letymbiotis stressed that Cyprus is taking all necessary precautionary measures to ensure the safety of the country and its citizens, and that normalcy continues. Mr. Letymbiotis referred to a meeting under the President of the Republic with relevant tourism stakeholders, where an extensive discussion took place on the situation and the measures being taken. He noted that there has been exaggeration in the reports of international media regarding the situation in Cyprus. The Spokesman clarified that the incidents reported by the British Secretary of Defence and the incident at the British Bases in Akrotiri are two separate incidents. He pointed out that Cyprus is in the midst of an unprecedented regional crisis and that the response of European partners is very important. Mr. Letymbiotis stated that the simultaneous visit of the President of France and the Greek Prime Minister to Cyprus is an expression of solidarity and support from the European Union. The Government seeks to present the real picture of Cyprus, as a country where normalcy continues and the safety of citizens is ensured.
