Veterinary Services: "We can't save the tree and lose the forest" - Complaints to the Police

The Veterinary Services express serious concern about the lack of cooperation from some livestock farmers in dealing with foot-and-mouth disease, which delays the implementation of necessary measures and endangers the restoration of normality in the sector. Sotiria Grigoriadou, Senior Officer of the Veterinary Services, stated that complaints have been filed with the Police by officials who faced obstruction in the performance of their duties. There are currently 38 livestock farms with cases in the province of Larnaca, while sampling and tracing continue. So far, 14,000 sheep and goats and 1,100 cattle have been culled, with another 10,000 animals awaiting culling. Vaccinations have covered 73% of cattle and 35% of sheep, with an emphasis on areas near the ceasefire line. The Veterinary Services emphasize that the lack of cooperation from livestock farmers is detrimental to tackling the crisis and that the implementation of measures is essential to protect livestock farming.
