Commission: Provisional Application of EU-Mercosur Trade Agreement from May 1st

The European Commission has notified Mercosur countries of the provisional application of the EU-Mercosur interim trade agreement (iTA), marking the final step for the agreement's provisional application from May 1st. The agreement will be provisionally applied between the EU and Mercosur countries that have completed the ratification procedures, such as Argentina, Brazil, and Uruguay, with Paraguay expected to follow soon. The provisional application involves the removal of tariffs on certain products. Commissioner for Trade Maroš Šefčovič described the development as an important step to demonstrate the EU's credibility as a trading partner. The Commission emphasizes that its priority is to translate the agreement into concrete results for EU exporters, offering them new opportunities for trade, growth, and jobs. The provisional application will allow for the immediate implementation of these promises. The EU-Mercosur agreement is a significant development for global trade, strengthening the EU economy and its position in the global market, while completing all democratic processes.
