KOKEN: ONEK Should Not Become a Field of Personal Conflicts

The Cyprus Youth Centers Organization (KOKEN) expressed deep concern over the developments within the Cyprus Youth Organization (ONEK), particularly following the resignations of Board members leading to a quorum issue. KOKEN emphasizes that ONEK belongs to the youth of Cyprus and must operate with transparency, institutional responsibility, and the production of substantial work, stressing that it should not become a field of conflict. It calls on the executive and legislative branches to take immediate action to restore the smooth functioning of ONEK, prioritizing the public interest and the interests of young people. Furthermore, KOKEN highlights the need for a review of the legislation governing ONEK to create a modern and functional institutional framework. This review should include distinct roles, accountability, conflict prevention mechanisms, and the assurance of institutional continuity, in order to prevent similar crises in the future. KOKEN believes that the current situation highlights the criticality of creating a stable and effective institutional framework for ONEK. Finally, KOKEN assures the state that it remains available to contribute to a sincere and institutional dialogue aimed at strengthening and modernizing youth policy in Cyprus. This offer of support underscores KOKEN’s commitment to promoting the interests of young people and strengthening policies concerning them.
