Looking at the Occupied Territory Through a Hole

The article presents a strongly critical view of how the European Union deals with the situation in Cyprus, particularly regarding the occupied territory. The author argues that the EU, despite the official accession of the entire island in 2004, in practice only recognizes the southern part. Furthermore, it accuses the EU of selectively applying its rules, as it does not exercise the same control and pressure on the occupied territory as it does on the south, allowing Turkey to exert substantial control. The author expresses disappointment with how EU leaders limit themselves to superficial observations, looking at the occupied territory “through a hole,” without taking substantial measures to protect EU territory.
