Cyprus Sports Organization Discusses Sexual Harassment Cases and 2026 Budget

The discussion of the Cyprus Sports Organization (CSO) budget for 2026 in the Parliamentary Finance Committee focused on reports of sexual harassment in sports. The President of the CSO Board of Directors, Yannis Ioannou, stated that the organization takes a strict stance against such cases, with one case already leading to a conviction and another ongoing. The CSO provides reporting mechanisms and collaborates with the "Voice" organization to provide psychological support to victims. The CSO's budget for 2026 is balanced, amounting to €60,020,150, and is linked to the strategic reform of sports in Cyprus. The CSO's plan is based on four pillars: promoting sports for all, strengthening competitive sports, developing sports infrastructure, and modernizing the organization's operations. Particular emphasis is placed on supporting women's sports, with improvements in infrastructure and increased financial support. Regarding violence in stadiums, the CSO referred to the renewed fan card, which acts as a deterrent and facilitates the identification of troublemakers. In addition, plans are being promoted for the development of sports facilities in schools and the creation of low-cost sports facilities.
