Israeli Delegation to Visit Cyprus to Advance Aphrodite-Isai Gas Field Agreement

A delegation from the Israeli Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure is set to visit Cyprus to promote an agreement regarding the joint exploitation of the Aphrodite and Isai natural gas fields. The delegation includes officials from the Ministries of Energy, Finance, and Justice, aiming to finalize the terms of exploitation for the transboundary reservoir located in the Cypriot and Israeli Exclusive Economic Zones (EEZs). Israeli Energy Minister Eli Cohen emphasized the strategic importance of natural gas for his country and the government's determination to boost production and exports. The Aphrodite-Isai agreement is considered crucial for deepening energy cooperation between Israel and Cyprus. Both sides have announced that the agreement is linked to the broader energy planning of the Eastern Mediterranean, including gas exports via Egypt and other regional projects. The Israeli government views the agreement as part of a long-term strategy to strengthen regional energy collaboration. The delegation's visit marks significant progress in negotiations and the effort to finalize the terms of exploitation of the reservoir. This cooperation is expected to have positive effects on both countries, enhancing their energy security and contributing to their economic development. Cyprus and Israel have developed a strong cooperative relationship in the energy sector in recent years, and the Aphrodite-Isai agreement represents a natural evolution of this collaboration.

Αντιπροσωπεία του ισραηλινού Yπουργείου Ενέργειας και Υποδομών μεταβαίνει στην Κύπρο με στόχο την προώθηση συμφωνίας σχετικά με το κοινό κοίτασμα φυσικού αερίου ανάμεσα στα κοιτάσματα Αφροδίτη και Ισάι, σύμφωνα με ανακοίνωση της ισραηλινής Kυβέρνησης.
Στην αποστολή, όπως μεταδίδει το ισραηλινό TPS-IL συμμετέχουν στελέχη των Yπουργείων Ενέργειας, Οικονομικών και Δικαιοσύνης, με στόχο τη συνέχιση των διαπραγματεύσεων για την οριστικοποίηση των όρων εκμετάλλευσης του διασυνοριακού κοιτάσματος το οποίο εκτείνεται μεταξύ της κυπριακής και της ισραηλινής ΑΟΖ.
Ο Yπουργός Ενέργειας του Ισραήλ Έλι Κόεν δήλωσε ότι το φυσικό αέριο αποτελεί στρατηγικό πλεονέκτημα για τη χώρα, τονίζοντας ότι η Kυβέρνηση θα συνεχίσει την ανάπτυξη κοιτασμάτων με στόχο την ενίσχυση της παραγωγής, των εξαγωγών και της οικονομίας.
Η συμφωνία Αφροδίτη–Ισάι αφορά τον καθορισμό πλαισίου συνεργασίας για την από κοινού αξιοποίηση του κοιτάσματος και θεωρείται βασικό βήμα για την εμβάθυνση της ενεργειακής συνεργασίας μεταξύ Ισραήλ και Κύπρου.
Σύμφωνα με όσα έχουν ανακοινωθεί από τις δύο πλευρές και στο παρελθόν, η συμφωνία συνδέεται με τον ευρύτερο ενεργειακό σχεδιασμό της Ανατολικής Μεσογείου, συμπεριλαμβανομένων εξαγωγών φυσικού αερίου μέσω τρίτων χωρών, όπως η Αίγυπτος, καθώς και άλλων περιφερειακών ενεργειακών έργων.
Η ισραηλινή Kυβέρνηση έχει δηλώσει επανειλημμένα ότι αντιμετωπίζει τη συγκεκριμένη συμφωνία ως μέρος μιας μακροπρόθεσμης στρατηγικής για την ενίσχυση της περιφερειακής ενεργειακής συνεργασίας.
