Interior Ministry Team to Investigate Turkish Cypriot Property Leases in Paphos Following Allegations

The Ministry of Interior is launching a campaign of checks on leases of Turkish Cypriot properties, following allegations concerning the Municipality of Paphos and its mayor, Phaedon Phaedonos. A team from the Ministry will travel to Paphos next week to inspect lease agreements, not only those of the Municipality but also of other private individuals. The Director-General of the Ministry of Interior, Ellikos Ilias, stated that the checks are sample-based and aim to rationalize the management of Turkish Cypriot properties. Similar checks were carried out in the past in the Mackenzie area, where low rents were revised. The Turkish Cypriot Property Management Service will continue checks in all provinces. Regarding the investigation into the role of the Mayor of Paphos, Mr. Ilias avoided making statements due to the ongoing investigation.
