Farmers' Protests in Greece: Positive Response to Meeting with Mitsotakis

Farmers' protests in Greece appear to be de-escalating as the Panhellenic Conference has accepted the government's invitation for a meeting with Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis next Tuesday. The meeting will be held on the condition that the farmers lift the road blockades and ensure representative participation from all protest sites. Government spokesman Pavlos Marinakis stated that the government is open to dialogue and seeks to find solutions to the problems faced by farmers. However, he emphasized that the continuation of road closures is unacceptable and creates problems for citizens' daily lives. Following the invitation to meet, the farmers initially responded positively, but the Panhellenic Conference will convene again on Sunday to decide whether to maintain the blockades until the meeting with the Prime Minister. This decision will be based on their assessment of the government's willingness to respond to their demands. The meeting is expected to focus on the issues raised by the farmers, such as production costs, product prices, insurance coverage, and income support. The government has already announced some support measures, but the farmers are seeking more substantial solutions.
